New Beginnings

I have to be honest with you; I am not very good at first impressions. I’ve spent a couple of days thinking about how I would like to introduce myself to you. I would write a draft, delete it, start another one, and the process would repeat. So here goes nothing… I chose the username ‘Bidayat’ (pronounced bed-die-yat) because it is my favorite Arabic word and it means ‘beginnings’.

In a few short weeks, I will begin one of the greatest experiences of my life. That’s right, I am heading for college! I will be 5,702 miles from home in my small liberal arts college that I could not be more excited about attending. Yes, it will be completely different than what I am used to and I will be placed outside of my comfort zone, but it’s the chapter in my life I have been waiting to start for much too long.

I have two older brothers in university who seem to be enjoying this phase in their lives. However, I can’t help but wonder what it will be like for me. As more time passes by, I become more and more enthusiastic but also curious. What will my schedule be like? Will I enjoy dorm life? Will I have time to join clubs, have an on-campus job, and complete my schoolwork? Answers to my questions will only come with time. It is important to me however, to stay positive and excited for what lies ahead.

Feel free to leave a reply with what you were/are anxious about, what you plan on majoring, or any questions you have for me!

  1. Hi! I just found your note about beginnings very interesting. I’m also very excited about going to college but not now. I have 2 more years before I graduate. What are some things I can do to get into a really good college. i’m taking lots of AP classes and have so much activities but not sure if there is something I need to do that will make me extra worthy of a college like Princeton or Harvard or Columbia. Thanks.

    1. Hi Brown Eyes! It’s good that you are preparing yourself already. You should keep in mind that you should stand out to colleges and universities and have something on your application that no other applicant would have. They want to see if you would be a great addition to their campus and it’s up to you to prove it! Best of luck to you, Liz.

  2. It’s going to be an interesting year and I can’t wait to start college too. This is my first year and I hope it’s going to be an amazing year. I’m going to be commuting back home, so it’ll be easier for me, but I wish I could live on campus, I want to experience it all and make new friends!
