College Textbook Tips

How to get textbooks cheaper, and save money

College texbooks are one of the most annoying parts of college. Every semester college students drop hundreds of dollars on overpriced books, that are somtimes never used. Text books are absolutely necessary in some classes, and never used in other classes it all depends on the professor. Also, many textbooks come out with new editions every year so when it comes time to trade back in your text book, the bookstore might not even except it. Remember its hard to do well in classes if you can't study the material, so make sure you get the textbooks you need to do well in school.

Buy Used Textbooks
Used text books are usually the best way to go, you don't save a lot of money, but it does add up when you buy multiple books. Before you buy, open the book and make sure none of the pages are ripped out, and no one crossed out or highlighted the entire book.

Find out what textbooks you will need next semester
After you make your schedule for next semester, send the professor an email and ask what textbook will be required for next semester, and make sure you find out what edition of the textbook will be acceptable for next semester.

Find someone with the exact textbook you need
This is college, everyone is counting pennies. Find someone with the exact book you are looking for, propose a deal where you will pay them $5.00 more than they will get at the book store (this will always be much less then a used book would cost you).

Look for cheap online textbooks
If you know the exact book you are looking for, you can search amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com and other textbook selling websites. Just be sure its the exact textbook you are looking for (stay away from "International" versions).
