College Laundry Tips

managing laundry while on a college campus

Laundry is somthing that has to be done, and can be very annoying for college students. Below are some tips to help make doing laundry at college less painful.

Tips to make laundry less painful

Plan on doing laundry

Try to plan when you will be low on clothes, so you can go at an off time. There are only a limited amount of washers and dryers, and the last thing you want to do is wait in line.

Watch a movie or sporting event

Watching a movie, TV show or sporting event can break up the time waiting for your laundry to finish. This will help take your mind off of it, and you can check on your laundry during commercials. If you are watching a movie, make sure it is a movie you have seen before, so you don't get so into it, you forget about your laundry.

Best times to do laundry

The best times to do laundry are on weekday afternoons or during big events (like a sports game). Weekends and nights are when most college students do laundry, so try to find gaps in your schedule so you can do your laundry quickly and easily.

Watch your washer and dryer usage

Don't take up all the washers or dryers at once (there's usually only a couple to a floor) since someone's bound to need it. And you can usually shove everything into one dryer easily. Most clothes are fine being dried on medium, and it saves money and space.

Clean the dryer's lint trap

Check to see if the dryer you are using has a lint trap or filter. Make sure you clean this before every load you put into the dryer. This not only allows your clothes to dry faster, but it also helps prevent fires.

Dont leave your laundry

Dont leave your laundry in the washer or dryer for long periods of time. If you leave your clothes in the washer too long after the cycle, they start to smell funny. And leaving your clothes in the dryer is just plain rude. If someone else laundry is still in the dryer, don't just throw it on the floor, put it on top of the dryer so that student does not have to wash their clothes all over again.
