How to be Popular in College

Tips for college students on how to be popular in college

College is a major transition from high school, but also a fresh new start. Freshman college students should follow basic guidelines to be popular or well known at college. The first year is very important because it will determine what type of student you will be. As college students build relationships with other college students and professors, they will become more well known on campus. Becoming well know is only half the battle, the other half is leaving others with a positive impression after meeting you.

Popular Students are friendly to everyone

College lasts for a long time, so be sure to be friendly to everyone you meet because you never know when you will meet that person again. Try to be polite and social to everyone you meet, even if you have never socialized with that type of person in high school. People are naturally attracted to others who smile a lot and are postive, so no matter how down you get still try to smile at others an say hello. Never talk negatively about others, even behind their backs. Listen to what people have to say, and try to find something about them that you find truly interesting.

Popular Students Join college clubs and organizations

Joining organizations is a great way to meet people and develop relationships. Joining groups and organizations you are truly interested in will allow you to meet other college students with similar interests.

Popular Students Stay healthy

College is a time when it becomes more difficult to stay active and fit. College students should make exercise and healthy eating a regular part of their schedule. Attending the college gym or running on campus is another way to meet new people, and it will make students look and feel great.

Be social - go to parties

Going to parties at college is a great way to meet others. Parties can range from small get-togethers for a club or organization on campus to wild and crazy fraternity parties. Parties are a great way to see other college students in a relaxed atmosphere, where they are more open to social interaction.

Popular Students Get Good Grades

I know it seems studying would not help a college student become popular, but you may be surprised. Many students form study groups to make studying easer. Getting good grades also ensures a student will be able to attend college the next year. Its impossible to become popular if you drop out, so be sure to get good grades and meet as many people as possible.

Become friends with a Popular Student

In order to become a popular student, a student must act like a popular student. Becoming friends with other popular students is a great way to find out the best way to become popular. You may notice it may be difficult to catch up with a popular student, because most are extremely busy and heavily involved in school activities, events, and organizations, but the effort is well worth it. A popular student will introduce you to people you have never met, and (sometimes important people). Notice how a popular student interacts with other people.

"I hear the nice guy syndrome here. For guys, if you want to become popular, try becoming a PUA. And if you don't know what that stands for, search it up. The advice up here is good but it doesn't go near as deep enough on actually becoming a popular person. Such as, getting good grades won't necessarily make you popular, and being nice to everyone may make you likable but definitely not popular. And for ladies, I would suggest focusing more on keeping up with fashion and looking your best. Guys, look up what PUA is and you'll become a popular person once you have put in the dedicated effort. Once again, the above advice is only half-heartedly recommended. I know it didn't help me when I started out. And yea, I read the book by Dale Carnegie. It's not bad, but the book is out of date and geared more for business situations. There was one good thing from the book, don't get me wrong, it was the three fundamental rules: Don't criticize, condemn, or complain. And also, never whine, bitch, or complain, ever. Those two sets of advice can get you far in becoming popular but is not all. For men, practicing becoming a PUA, and for women, practice looking the best you can look. Wish you all the best of luck!" - Dave
