College Jobs & Career Tips

Tips to help college students find a job or career

Finding a job while in college or after graduating college is one of the hardest things a college student will ever do. Trying to convince a company that you are better than all of the other college students out there is tough without using the proper techniques. This section is dedicated to helping a college student find an internship, a college job while in school, or help a soon to be or recent college graduate find a job.

College Jobs

College jobs are important for college students who need or want money while at college. Typically its hard for college students to find jobs that are flexible to work around a students schedule.

Campus Jobs

Jobs on campus are usually a good place to start, although they do not pay much, but they are close (do not require a car) and flexible. Typically jobs on campus pay weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly and usually not much more than minimum wage, depending on what part of the school you work for.

Restaurant Jobs

Working at restaurants as a waiter, waitress, host or hostess typically pays more than on campus jobs. It is very important that you tell the person who makes the schedule at your work the times you have class you are not available under any circumstances. College students should never miss class because of a college job. If your work is inflexible, you should quit and find another job. Note unless the restaurant is within walking distance these jobs typically require a car.

Jobs and Careers after College

Finding a job or career for after graduation can be stressful and time consuming. College seniors typically are very busy trying to study for finals, finish essays and papers, and making sure they have met all the requirements to graduate.

Experience in a paid position in a real work environment will put you above all the other students who have no real work experience. Most students just have an internship, but if you can get a part time job at a company after your internship, it will greatly help your chances landing a job.
