College Internship Tips

Information and tips on internships and paid internships

Student internships are a great way to find out what you like and dislike about the type of work you are doing, and what type of company you would like to work for. Other examples include finding local businesses that do exactly you want to do. Find a company you would like to work for and tell them you are very interested in learning the business and you are willing to do anything to help out and contribute.

If the company does not have any internships available, ask if they would mind if you could come “shadow” or follow around a worker one day, or at specific times a week when they are not busy. Remember, this is not a time to worry about money, what you are looking for is experience here, which will be worth much more than money when you graduate.

Non-paid internships are internships college students work to gain experience, and the corporation does not pay for the work performed. This is typical in majors such as elementary education where students become student teachers for a entire semester and do not get paid.

Internship turns into a job

College students who do well at their internship are sometimes offered a part time job at the end of the internship. This is very important to know because it will help college students earn money and develop more experience. Students should treat their internship like a real job. Being on time and doing good work is a way to get noticed and make a company realize you are worth keeping around.

Paid Internships

College students should start looking for the types of jobs they are interested in as early as possible. Paid Internships are the best type of job a college student can get. Students should do everything in their power to try to get a paid internship, because they pay money, and the student gains experience.
