Get Things Straight

If you are going away to college, roommates are most likely in your future. Whether you are two feet away from each other in the same room (hello Freshman year!) or simply share a common living room area, other people will probably be in closer quarters with you than you may wish! However, no matter how different you think you and your roomies are, getting along and remaining happy (from everyone's perspective) depends mainly on one thing...Communication!
My roommate and I were quite different (that's an understatement); yet, I ended the year feeling like I had it pretty good. You know why? Although she enjoyed staying out really late (when I had to get up really early for my classes), our taste in music/TV couldn't have been more different and my definition of "clean" didn't match hers; we managed to get through it in one fairly satisfied piece. Communication is not all about talking; your body language, actions and treatment of the other person can speak volumes.
Then again, there will be those times when the TV is blaring as you try to sleep or you walk in to find people whom you have never met perched upon your bed. All I have to say about that...."It's College!"
