Labs...intimidating or intriguing?!

Posted September 2nd, 2009 at 05:53 PM by emily

So, here is a little comedy for your day....this morning at 6:30AM we had our third fire drill in the past week (there is some form of malfunction....that has GOT to go!). Follow that up with an 8AM, 9AM, 10AM & 11AM class...and then a 2-5PM lab and you've got one heck of a busy day!
Anyone with me?!

Anyways, I felt compelled to write about labs today because I just got back from my first Organic Chemistry lab, which I was pretty much terrified of thanks to countless rumors and stories. My friend and I happened to be in the same Lab (this happened last year and we were partners, which made things much easier!). Once we got to lab though, we were given assigned partners (the tension/stress levels went sky high!).

There is always that kid who doesn't really want to be there, doesn't prepare and/or just doesn't care. Thankfully, I was paired with a nice and friendly girl who is serious about the lab, while still enjoying it! Chemistry, Biology or whatever lab you may be in can be quite interesting, if you follow directions and get to know your lab partners. Since you paid money to do this, how about making the most of the learning experience! Oh and about lab partners...be sure to exchange phone numbers, last names (HELLO, facebook!), emails, what have you... it will make your life much easier!

One more thing, please don't wear flip flops to a Chemistry lab. This is (at least) a second year lab and STILL there was someone who showed up with flip flops. There is always that one person!
