Once Upon a Time

Poor Freshmen. I know I was just one not even a year ago, but sometimes you just have to feel bad for them. I remember when I first came to campus and was trying to find my classes. I had just about every book that the on-campus bookstore over charged me for (because I was not sure if it was needed in class or not), a map of the school, my printed schedule and a look of terror in my face
(Remember those times?!).
Well, today in Calculus class, I had a girl ask me if I could help her with some of the homework problems. I knew she was a freshman (although, after a week, some of the "signs" start to fade) and I began to think back to my first days as a freshman... Everyone seems to know more than you and you feel completely overwhelmed. I helped her a bit in class and afterwards she still looked stressed out, so I offered to give her my email address if she might have any more questions for me. Granted, I know that my email may or may not become overloaded thanks to this; that doesn't matter. The smile and load that I could literally see being lifted off of her shoulders just made my day! Lend a helping hand to those freshmen...you were one, once upon a time!
