This shall be my last "hello" until next Thursday because I will be far, far away at a conference...with no room in my suitcase to bring my laptop. Therefore, I have to leave this technological world and just live. I am actually partly looking forward to it.

Alot of my responsiblities and tasks to be done relate to the computer: paying bills, blogging, food reviewing, recipe hunting, paper writing, checking my mail, determining the weather, etc, etc. Man...a few of those (paying bills, checking the mail, etc) don't even sound like a computer needs to be involved. Oh the 21st century! I am excited to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy what the city has to offer in the way of food and fun... That is, when I am not enjoying the wealth of educational and networking opportunities that will be at my disposal. :D

What have you done this summer to further your education, career and/or future? It could be as simple as subscribing to a career related magazine to stay on top of pertinent information in your respective field, participating in an internship, developing a profile on linkedin , renewing your membership to a career related organization...You tell me! What else can we do to make our name known in the field that we are interested in?

Hey guys! How is your day going thus far? Either you just woke up and are relishing in the comfort of a delicious breakfast and a warm cup of coffee (Welcome!) or you are halfway through the day, just wishing that you had a little caffeine action . I just popped out of bed a little while ago and am preparing to go get ready for work. After work, I have to go get a haircut, go to the bank and make an exciting trip (sarcasm?) to Walmart!

Why am I excited to go to Walmart? Well, I am going to stock up on some things that I will need for my upcoming trip! Woo hoo! I barely ever go on trips, especially during the school year (hello, BUSY BUSY schedule). Therefore, when summer rolls around, I am more pumped than ever to go explorin'. Granted, my trip is somewhat on the educational side; but, what can I say, I love my major!

Another thing that is itching to be checked off my to-do list is packing. Packing is no fun and unpacking is even worse, but it's gotta be done, no? I guess I could just not pack and show up in the same clothes everyday...but that might not make the best impression. Tonight I shall try on my heels and see which ones will kill my feet the least, cover my bed with a plethora of clothing options, scour my jewelry in an attempt to be fashionable, make a list (duh!) and ... Oh, to be a fly on the wall! haha

It's that time of the week, peeps: Tasty Tuesday! :)

In a few short days (what exactly does that saying mean? All days are 24 hours...Perhaps it means that they will seem short to me because I am so excited?! We'll go with that! ;)), I will be flying away to foreign lands (foreign to me...as in... a different state) and I am not looking forward to cramming everything I need into a little suitcase and standing in long lines. I am, however, looking forward to my final destination.

In my opinion, the airlines are getting a bit stingy these days and getting a snack on an airplane that is something more than cheap pretzels is almost as rare as flying pigs (oh wait, those don't even exist). For this reason, I go to the airport, fully prepared to battle the crowds with a stash of energizing snacks. So, obviously, drinks are out of the option (You'll have to pay some astronomical price to quench your thirst. Sorry.). Snack-a-roos are completely IN the question, however. I would suggest that you come fully prepared, as well, for your next plane ride (which, hopefully, is on the way? Already past? Take a trip while you still can!! School is fast approaching!). Here are some of my favorite plane (or road trip!) snacks:

Granola Bars
Homemade "Trail Mix" (combine whatever cereal, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate chips, etc that may be within the confines of your kitchen)
Fruit (pre-sliced and ready to eat)
Little baggies of crackers
Hard Candy/Gum
Sandwich (this would be more of a lunch, if you knew that you would be hustling and bustling around that time)

What do you suggest?

Well, hello! Long time, no...blog. Blame it on technology. Sometimes it's your best friend and sometimes it's your worst nightmare. Right now, we are BFF's again, but who knows how long that will last.

Anyways...

I have had some very wise professors in my life as a student and I accredit each and every one of them for doing their part in helping me to become the person that I am today. One of those wise individuals said something to our class one day that has become a sort of motto, if you will: “It’s who you know that gets you in the door…It’s what you know that will keep you there”.

This is so true that I can’t even begin to tell you. Most people like to base their future on the first part of that statement, while turning a blind eye to the second part of that statement. “I may not be doing very well in my studies, but my dad knows the president of this particular company, so I don’t have to worry”. You know what…that individual will most likely get a job before many of his/her fellow classmates. However, if he/she doesn’t have any clue what their responsibilities are and does not have the skills to complete the tasks at hand, the majority of their classmates will be prospering and knocking on the door of becoming a CEO or president of their respective company before John Doe up there ever makes his first advancement (that is, if he wasn’t fired for incompetency).

Who you know is a big part of the equation. It’s the reason why networking is such and important part of succeeding in your respective career field. But never underestimate the power of your education. You go to college to gain a new wealth of knowledge. Everything else is just icing on a cake. Icing is a very integral part of cake, let’s not forget! ;)

It?s these kinds of days that make me wish I had rain boots! Rain is bouncing around off my windows and roof like someone is playing ping pong with my house. If I had a ping pong table, I would invite them to play a round or two?But I don?t and whoever "them" is doesn't exist. ;)

Every time that I go to Target, I say that I am going to buy rain boots. However, when I go, it?s never raining and I see the $25 price tag and I blurt out the good ole? saying? ?I?ll get ?em next time?. Yea, well next time has never come. It?s so annoying.

Have you ever done this with your homework? Haha Don?t lie to me. You look at that term paper that isn?t due for 6 weeks and you think about heading to the library to get a jump start, but then a friend calls or a commercial comes on for your new favorite show or you remember that errand that just HAS to be done now and your paper gets pushed aside??I?ll do it next time?.

By the time next time rolls around, it?s raining and you are too late. Yea, it has happened to the best of us. No shame, kids. Just try to beat it? because splashing through the puddles in your rain boots, fully prepared for whatever the clouds may hold, is a great feeling. It?s almost as great as showing up to class with a paper that will blow your professor out of the water? no rain boots (or rain) required. :)

Did you have any Tasty Tuesday eats yesterday? I would have loved to indulge in a full force barbeque, but it rained on my parade (literally!). I very well could have fired up my George Foreman grill, but something about plugging in an electric machine doesn?t have the same effect. Maybe next week.

In anticipation that the rain actually will stop, what are some suggestions that you have for me? I mean, burgers are a given, but I am looking for something unique here. Grilled fruit sounds like a mighty fine idea...:D

There are many great things about college. I?m sure we could make quite the list if it wasn?t Friday and I wasn?t half asleep. However, there are also a few things about college that are not quite so great. Let?s make a little list-age? living on your own (okay, so this probably goes on the ?Great Things About College? List, but the paying for everything, doing your own laundry, etc most certainly does not), studying your bootay off, astronomical levels of stress (Whatever happened to the days of lemonade stands and hide and seek?) and leaving some of the best friends that you have ever had. Let?s focus on the last one, shall we?

During high school and middle school, you form friendships with certain people that you just know will last a lifetime. :D Granted, some of them take a turn for the worst; but leaving for college means leaving the ones that you have grown so close too. Thankfully, everyone is in the same situation, so making new friends is not too strenuous of a task!

The good thing about having friends in far places is making excuses for roadtrips and random voyages together. My best friend, who I have not seen in many months, just drove nine hours to stay with me for four days. Don?t you always feel like vacations with friends are too short? Haha Oh well, I plan to make the most of it!

Happy Fourth of July! Horrah if you have Monday off and bummmmmer if you don?t!

Have you ever had to get shirts together for your designated club? On the other hand, have you ever simply ordered or received a shirt from a club member and thought nothing more than? ?What?s taking so long??. Well, wait until you are the one in charge of getting the shirts, ensuring that you have enough of every size, trying your best to wager a good price and attempting to please everyone in the midst of it all. I am attempting to utilize funding for T-shirts for the club that I am in charge of and figuring out which forms to turn in is just the start of it.

I did manage to come up with a ?cute? logo of sorts to go on the back of the shirts. Granted, it is in color and having only Microsoft Word and Paint to work with made things just a tad bit difficult. However, after a few hours, I felt as though I had achieved quite the masterpiece.

Have you ever had to use miniscule resources because of a lack of something better, yet you felt as though the end product was just as good as ever? As a college student, I am going to assume that you probably have. It?s liberating. I guess that?s what college is all about?teaching you life skills, no matter how small.

It?s Tasty Tuesdays and I am at a lost when it comes to what I should be sharing with you all. Hmm...Since it is summer and all, I figure that many of you have more time to devote to your food than you do during the bustling months of the school year. In other words, you have traded ramen noodles for mom?s pasta dish, pre-packaged brownie bites for homemade baked goods, etc, etc. What have you done lately with strawberries? Have you made anything to quell your sweet tooth with the vibrant fruit?

I have a conference that I am going to in July that comes with some amazing networking opportunities. Do you have a function like this in the future? If not in the near future, it's got to be somewhere on your radar! Job fairs, Expo's, Meetings...you never know when you will need to be prepared to sell yourself. If you don't need anything (job, recommendation, etc) at the moment, you will at least have some contacts for the future. It never hurts to make friends. Here are a few tips to have you ready for any networking endeavor you may encounter:

1. Make sure that your resume is up to date. You don't want to spend hours trying to remember when you did this and when you did that.

2. Get some business cards! You don't have to have some fancy title to entitle you to a stack of cardstock with your name on it. Sure, you have your resume, but a business card is something extra special that can make your information easier to access.

3. Buy a portfolio or little business card case. I own a portfolio, but I recently bought this little business card case, which is a great idea if you are planning to attend a conference or EXPO and have the potential to meet a vast array of people.

4. Get the word out! Join social networking sites and organizations that are involved in connecting professionals. Try out linkedin!

What are your tips!?

?Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety one?

?"I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence?

Tomorrow is Friday! Because of this fact, I have grown to really love Thursdays. Really. Fridays are even better, but Thursdays are pretty darn amazing. Mondays are horrendous, but Tuesdays feel almost just as bad, knowing that the week is still ahead of you. However, enjoy your job and Monday through Friday are all somewhat in the same category. It?s nice.

I see how students are failing at certain classes and it makes me wonder?WHY? You get to pick the classes that you take in college. It?s no surprise. Sure, every degree plan has a few little hiccups that you just have to push through and do your best; but when we are talking about core classes, you should not be failing.

For example, my Calculus II class should not have had more than half of the class failing when 90% of the class was aspiring engineers. Engineers need to have calculus DOWN. If it isn?t clicking, I would suggest that you either figure out how to flip the switch right now or go down a different road. Either way, if you are failing in some core curriculum classes, you need to take notice and figure out what is going on and what can be done to correct the problem.

Everyone has something that they should enjoy doing and something that they can pursue and succeed at. The most difficult part of it all is finding that special something. Sure the weekends are awesome and that will never change, but you should never dread every day of the week at work. If so, rethink your path because you will more than likely be working for the rest of your life. There is no reason to dread it.

Tasty Tuesday this week is going to be devoted to the world of EGGS! Eggs are so versatile, it is not even funny. Not to mention, as a college student I am sure that you have already taken note of this, but man are they CHEAP! Filling, nutritionally-packed and cheap?a college students dream food, no? However, scrambled/sunny side up eggs can get a bit boring if you don?t opt to switch things up. How? Well, I am glad that you asked.

?Try mixing mashed avocado into your eggs before scrambling them. It makes the eggs extra rich and creamy. It just takes them to a whole other level.

?Make a frittata, which involves placing the beaten eggs in a pan, topping them with veggies, beans, meat, etc and then slowly cooking them (part of the time with the lid on) until they are cooked through. Cut like a pizza and dig in!

?Make an omelet. Don?t be scared, just don?t try to flip ?er over before it?s cooked firmly enough. Okay?

?Try making crepes. You can enter crepes into your favorite search engine and you will be presented with a plethora of possibilities.

?Turn on the oven and bake mini
frittatas in muffin pans!

?French Toast. Enough said. :D

?Fried rice with eggs mixed right on in. No need to visit your favorite Chinese restaurant.

What is your favorite way to utilize eggs?

Have you seen that show on CBS? Do you like it? I think it?s funny? to a point. You could apply the same concept to college.

You see a kid running around campus like a chicken with it?s head cut off, circling the same area over and over again, walking at an exponential speed and perhaps trying to slyly pull out a map. One question for that individual: ?Has anyone ever told you that you look like a Freshman??. I get that a lot.

You see someone walking at a leisurely pace, randomly bumping into friends, grabbing a latte before class (with no regards to what the syllabus says in regards to food) and walking into class a few minutes late. One question for that individual: ?Has anyone ever told you that you look like an upper classman??. I get that a lot.

You see someone who looks exhausted, stumbling out of the library, heading straight for the coffee shop, calling their mom for a little moral support. One question for that individual: ?Has anyone ever told you that you look like a grad student preparing for their thesis??. I get that a lot.

What do you get a lot?

Set in Their Ways

*Tv shows.* We all work (either that or you have some magical scheme that I really wish you would share with the rest of us) and when you get home...

Tv shows. We all work (either that or you have some magical scheme that I really wish you would share with the rest of us) and when you get home from that long (sometimes very stressful) day, you need something to look forward to. Perhaps it is taking the dog for a walk, going grocery shopping, donning an apron and channeling your inner Julia Child, sinking into a warm bath, meeting up with friends for dinner?or maybe just ordering in, sitting on the couch and turning on the TV. Because, even if you only watch an hour or two of tv each week, I bet those two hours are well planned out.

You most probably have a favorite TV show that you just can?t help, but want to watch. I am an America?s Got Talent, American Idol (Go Lee!), So You Think You Can Dance and Next Food Network Star fan. Obviously, I don?t fall into the category of people who only watch two hours of tv each week. No shame. As college students, we need to have a TV show that we can call a ?favorite? for every night of the week. How else would we be such master procrastinators? I am hesitant to let my list grow, but if you have any pertinent suggestions, let me know!

I am open to suggestions. Have you ever noticed that most people are simply NOT? People become set in their ways, which is the reason why your classmates all sit in the same spot each day, despite the lack of assigned seating. And if someone is in ?your seat??Oh buddy! Tell someone about one of your shows and how great it is and chances are that if it is not on their ?must-have? shows, it will never make it there. I am not sure why that is. Have you ever had to share a tv with someone who has a favorite show on at the same time as one of yours? It?s like WWIII.
