My dorm may be the smallest dorm I've ever seen in my life, but there's nothing I can do about it. So, what my roommate and I have both done is add some homey touches to make our room seem more at home than it is. For instance, we have an old cork board in our room next to our desk- we both put decorative paper over it to dress it up and we've also covered the walls with pictures and posters. This all may seem obvious, but when I came to college I was so unprepared with the decorating aspect! But one thing I did bring, which is very important-is a lot of pictures! Also- a fan that kicks butt is a must! (If you don't have air conditioning). I'm just glad I brought movies with my dvd player- just watching them makes me feel more comfortable as weird as that sounds. Dorms may be gross (especially the showers! ), but you've got to do what you can to make the most out of them! I'm saying all of this now and not the first couple days of college because today is when I FINALLY got paper for my cork board. It has been bugging me for 2 weeks!

Tonight is Jersey Shore night/Thirsty Thursday so hopefully I'll get to go out (if my roommate stops being a buzzkill).

Last night I went to B.o.B and Travie McCoy! It was absolutely insane it was so good! I was even in the back, back section since I got tickets the day before and I had a blast. Being a college student, particularly at my college, has its perks. Since I attend this college, I only had to pay $20 while everyone else had to pay $35 + convience charges- sweet deal for me. Even though most college students want to save money and whatnot, I say go to as many of these discounted concerts as you can, the memories will be worth it.

Today I waited in line for about 45 minutes for T.I. tickets since he's coming to town September 24th. His concert is definitely going to be 10 times wilder. So that is definitely something I'm looking forward to. And this time, I have general admission (floor seats) and won't be in the back seats with all the lame-o's (or people who bought their ticket late like me ;) )

There's not too much to say about a Monday- I had Spanish class at 905, which always isn't fun. Then First year seminar and Math all right after each other. Math might be the most boring thing of my life, but my other classes I actually enjoy. This is one of the huge differences I see from high school and college. Another thing- I freaked out about my Spanish homework and found out it wasn't due for another week and a half. Typically in high school, homework is due the next day. Things run way differently in college. Just rememeber to always check your syllabus at all costs, everyday.

Today in class, I had public speaking and we had to introduce ourselves and say our most embarrassing moment. Of course I totally exaggerated mine for crowd appeal (no one knows me I can do whatever I want ;) ). Public speaking totally freaks me out, but I guess that's why it's required to take it here- you need to overcome that fear because at some point in your life you're going to have to perform a speech, one that better be damn good or it'll cost you/make you look bad. On to my second and last class of the day: ECON. Sometimes I forget I'm actually in class when I'm there. Today, for a demonstration, we made paper airplanes to the song Airplanes by B.o.B. Different professors have different techniques, and I'm sure as hell not complaining about this one!

Now, I have talked about my roommate from time to time in my blogs. Well, last night I was trying to do some homework for Spanish and she decided to go to bed at 11pm since she had an 8am. Well, I had an 11:15am as my earliest so I wanted another hour to do my homework. I was being quiet, not disturbing her, but I needed to have a light on, obviously. She dramatically kept "tossing and turning" in her bed I guess to show me she couldn't fall asleep. She also kept asking me when I'm going to bed when I already told her in an hour (so at 12, it was 1130) and saying "I hate those lights, they're so bright." Now Captain Obvious was clearly trying to hint to me she wanted me to shut things off and go to bed, but you need to make sacrifices if you're living with someone. She doesn't give a **** when she's screaming on the phone with her boyfriend in the room with me when I'm trying to do my homework. MAYBE I wouldn't have still been doing it if she hadn't all night. Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that you need to be aware that you're not the only person in the room. I did everything I could to be polite and quiet for her, meanwhile she's loud and doesn't care. And if everything isn't 100% perfect for her, she gets mad. Hmmm..interesting way to live with someone.

Yesterday I had to pleasure of seeing my boyfriend for the WHOLE day. His college is about an hour away (20 minutes longer than we thought), but the drive is easy and he has his car! Although he's playing soccer for his school, he still makes time to see me. We try to see each other at least once a week. I'm still debating whether this sucks or it's good for our relationship. Just about everyone thinks relationships in college won't last, in fact, before I met my boyfriend I thought the same exact thing. I thought anyone who stayed with their boyfriend during college was an idiot. However, you don't really know how hard it is to let someone go until you're actually in the position. Now my argument is this: if my boyfriend is cool with me going out and trusts me, and I don't need a random hook-up for a good time, then why not have a boyfriend? I guess my case is special because we can see each other fairly often. Also, I don't know if I'm just saying this because it's only the beginning, but I guess we'll see. But what I do know is that when I finally do see him it's that much better.

BUT, if you're like my roommate and her boyfriend, I would say dump him ASAP. My roommate is on the phone with her boyfriend ALL the time (when she's not on the phone with someone else) and every single day they get in a fight, literally. They both yell (and when i say yell, I mean YELL) at each other for going out or even talking to someone of the opposite sex. She wastes all this time fighting and doesn't get her homework done and didn't even go out last weekend. If your boyfriend/girlfriend tries to make you feel bad for going out and having a good time, then they don't really care about you to want you to be happy. My roommate's boyfriend wants her to stay in the dorm at all times. He may be coming down here next weekend so hopefully I won't have to break up a hard core fist fight.

Last night I went out with the same boys as Friday night. They told me they invited over random girls with alcohol so we could drink that. Now get this- these girls were like "I don't know if we wanna come over, we don't want you drinking all of our alcohol." So the boys were like just bring a little then, then we can't drink it all. These girls have THREE handles and they bring over 1 water bottle for 4 of them. Obviously, they can't share (even though they gave me a shot). Not only did they not bring anything, but they each took a beer of the two 12 packs the guys had. The guys were PISSED! They were pissed about the alcohol, but they also said they had to get away from "those grenades" (Jersey shore reference if you're confused) because we wouldn't get into any parties with them. (so mean, i know) But I had to follow the guys and we finally lost them. We were on our way to this guy's birthday party in an apartment and we saw this girl, Sarah*, who was a grade ahead of me in my high school. She practically attacked me when I saw her (never talked to her before) and got my number and everything. Drunk friends are your best friends. Anyways, we get to this party and this drunk girl cannot remember where it is so we're walking around until we finally see someone we know..it was worth it though we each got multiple cups of jungle juice and vodka and lemonade. After we left we did the now traditional dollar a slice pizza. In line for this pizza though, I saw this guy from my work, Drew, who was creeping hard. I guess he might have heard me say I had to go to the bathroom because he kept saying "Oh my apartment is right there, you can go right there." Since he was constantly insisting that I go into his apartment to use the restroom, I went. But not without my two guys friends to watch over me. Always go in groups! It really is important! After that, we had to go get our friend that went to a guy's apartment. After that 10 mile walk, we finally get there and this guy we were getting was lovingggg it. Unfortunately, the guy's apartment we were at has been texting me over and over to come over. I have a boyfriend so that's definitely a no can do. But once again, my guy friends all were there to protect me. I can't stress this enough: have a good set of friends that you can trust to be there for you. It is SO necessary!

So my first week of classes are OVER! My first impression: Most professors are way more laid back than high school teachers. Now I say most because there are definitely some who are uptight and strict, but for the most part, they're cool. I did learn that even if they don't even mention homework- you probably still have it! I didn't check my math syllabus until Thursday and found out I had so many "suggested" homeworks. Even if it just says suggested, do it! That's just my advice, but I strongly recommend it. Professors don't give too much instruction on what you have to do so you're pretty much on your own to figure it out. But on a positive note, classes are more spread out and instead of the normal classes from 7-2 in highscool, you can start later and end earlier! It really is awesome.

Now onto last night! I decided to go out with people from my high school and their friends from summer session. We pregamed in their room and went out to frat row. I actually had SO much fun. I'm a little worried that if I depend on people from my high school I won't meet other people from other places, but it's the best I can do now. Anywayss.. we went to frat row and it was FREEZING! I was wearing a tank top and shorts and had to borrow one of the guys' shirts to wear when we were walking from place to place. As we got to frat row, there was cops all over so we decided to head to the lacrosse house. We got there and it was PACKED. Another guy from our high school was running the keg and hooked us all up. All and all, it was a decent night. We didn't spend too long at any particular party, but just walking from place to place can be fun if you make it fun and are with the right people. However, after the night was done, we headed to get dollar a slice pizzas. Perfect way to end the night. (As you can see my roommate and her friend needed a time out from the last experience: see blog post "1" for more details) If you watch how much you drink you can keep the good times going..and still be able to go out again the next day! By the way, my roommates stomach STILL doesn't feel right.

That's all for now! But it's saturday night we'll see what I get into tonight!

So last night my roommate, my friend, and I all went to my roommate's sisters apartment and took shots. We didn't take too many so we wouldn't be dead and then we headed off to frat row once again. Once we finally got there and got in, we went into this room where there was more alcohol for us to have. I just sat on the couch and took sips from this guys cup (who I KNEW and TRUSTED- not risking it having roofies in it. Besides, he was drinking it too). However, my roommate and my other friend were chugging from the bottle going crazy on the other side of the room. The result: 1. I lost my key somewhere along the way or in the frats. 2. We had to leave early and call a cab because my other friend was becoming incoherent. We finally got back to the dorms and by that time she had already puked all over the cab, which made my roommate throw up too. We laid her down in the grass and turned her on the side and people kept coming up to see what was going on. Eventually, we had to call the hospital because she was way too sick to risk anything bad happening. While this was all going on the cab driver was waiting for us to pay him. We owed him $55 dollars and all we had given him was $10. The one guy who was with us said he was going back to his dorm to get money and he never came back. So I called up a friend and asked to borrow money for a little. So then the cab driver finally left (he was getting so angry and threatening to call the cops). But the girl was off to the hospital with a guy who's she's known her whole life and my roommate and I went back to our room. However, she went to the bathroom and threw up so much more. We finally got to sleep and in the morning we woke up feeling so sick. My roommate even threw up again. We had class early, but luckily got ourselves up to go.

Lesson: Monitor your drinking, ESPECIALLY if you have class the next day. Partying is fun and all, but it's not the next day if you have to sit in a hot room for an hour and 15 minutes feeling terrible. And also, CALL AN AMBULANCE if it's that bad. You won't get in trouble and a fine is more important than a life.

So after finishing my first class on my third day of college, I've come to a conclusion that professors try to tell you as least as possible. At least for the college I'm attending, most things are posted online: syllabi, policies, homework, exam dates. You have to look these up for yourself and keep on top of them because they WILL NOT remind you whatsoever. They may shoot you an email every once and a while, but it's very doubtful. College is so very different from high school in that aspect. The responsibility is ALL on you. And when i say all, I mean all. Not just the responsibility of doing your homework and staying on top of things, but even just the simple fact that you technically don't have to go to class. It'd be very easy to skip. It's not like high school where they'd call the house or your mom would be shoving you out the door. So you HAVE to stay motivated to go to class everyday and do the work all on your own or you're really going to suffer.

So yesterday was my first day of classes.. my earliest class, Spanish 3, was at 9:05. My teacher is from Columbia and has a heavy accent and I was really intimidated when I first walked into the class (of course I was a minute late and everyone else in the class had already filled out an index card of their address, hometown, email, etc.), however, he was actually really cool and seemed like he was going to help us out in the class. This is one thing I learned about college- professors always want you to call them by their first name because they don't want to feel old. All of my professors so far have said to call them by their first name. Anyways, I was then off to my First Year Seminar class for business students. This class is designed to get you familiar with your major and get used to college life. My professor actually said the class wouldn't be hard and actually fun. So, that was a huge relief. These classes were both about 30 people in the class. THEN, i walk into my calculus for business class and there I see 400 people in this huge lecture hall. My senior class was less than the amount of the people in this class! It was crazy. The professor wrote NO TALKING in big letters on the chalk board with his huge glasses, gray mustache, and suspenders. The people I walked over to this class from my first year seminar and I all were stuck in the very last row. We were even 7 minutes early and it filled up that quickly. I could not see a thing on the projector and could hardly here. Word of advice: Get to class VERY early. Because if you wan to do well, you're going to need to sit in the front as much as you don't want to. There's way too many distractions in the back.

Later that night, my boyfriend, whose college is around 40 minutes away from mine, drove over to come see me. He unfortunately got lost and it took him 2 hours to get here and at this time it was 11 pm. He had to leave at 1 am because he had to wake up early for soccer the following morning. This meant we only have 2 hours together :( It's really hard having a boyfriend when you're in college when he goes to a different one. There's so many different aspects you have to think about. I am completey in love with my boyfriend, but who knows what will happen? Will we break up? Will he cheat on me? Will I be tempted? Will we drift apart? And if all these horrible things happen, will I be wasting my time here at college? This question kills me and I think about it each and every day. I can't imagine not being with him, but would life just be easier if I wasn't? When I get back home I know I'll just want to be with him though. I'll definitely bring up this topic a lot because I'm sure a lot of people have this same problem.

That's all for now!
Floor meetings are designed to get you aware of all the rules of the dorm: no drinking (that they "know of"), no loud music, no guests unless roommate approves, etc. Of course all of this is said by your residence assistant, aka RA. My RA is a senior this year and doesn't do much but knock on everyones door before activities and end those meetings early. Anyway, on to the business meeting- I'm studying to major in Business Marketing so I have a fall college meeting for business for a good 2 and a half hour. The meeting basically covered info on internships, co ops, gpa expectations to stay in the college of business:eek:, and to go to class (as I've heard a million and one times. The transition from home to college life is slowly moving on..but it's moving! Classes are tomorrow so I better get some shut eye!

My roommate finally moved in this morning...although I thought it'd be awkward, it wasn't at all. We clicked from the start and it's totally comfortable. If you're open and talkative, I feel like you really can't go THAT wrong.

So after one of the most boring speeches ever (New students welcoming speech), we started to get ready for our first night out together. We were planning on meeting up with a guy my roommate knew at 10 o'clock, but when we finally met up with this guy at 1015. THEN we had to wait for another group of girls in their room while they pregamed for an additional 45 minutes. At this point, it started to drizzle and we began our walk to a frat house. Wearing wedges was not the right choice when this 10 minute walk turned into an hour walk due to drunken girls constantly stopping and talking. We were all soaking wet and got to the frat .. and they were out of beer because it was so late! So advice: go to a frat early, you're more guaranteed to get in and get a drink. So my roommate, her friend from home, and I just ended up taking a bus back to the dorms. Not the best night to start off the semester, but we'll see how it goes from here.

This is the day where you truly do change from a child to an adult.. to think I won't have to answer to anyone- ALL responsibility is on me. It's a crazy (and kind of scary) thought. As I moved into my dorm room today, so many things were running through my mind. See, I'm very close with my family- I love them all to death, I ADORE my three pets (a dog, cat, and fish), have AWESOME friends, and an amazing boyfriend. Leaving all these things behind makes me so sad. However, this is also a new chapter in my life. It's an exciting start where I begin my life in the real world. Even though I was teary eyed when saying goodbye to each of the things I listed, I'm also SO PUMPED to see where this road takes me.

On a completely different note: PACKING! I never knew how difficult it'd be to pack away your life. Especially being a girl you need makeup, hair stuff, a TON of clothes, etc. I've never been so stressed in my life! ..Well until I unpacked into my dorm. Figuring out what goes where may be the hardest of all. But once you're done it's all good and you get to finally relaxxx a little.

Tonight we had a dinner for our floor in the dorm. We ate at the dining halls together..it was pretty scary since I didn't know ANYONE. My roommate is moving in tomorrow so I was completely alone. Anyway, after awkwardly standing in line waiting to get in and not talking to anyone, I finally asked a girl "Do you understand this place?" and that lead to us sitting together. Complete relief! It really is as easy as that. Although it is still uncomfortable talking with people that I don't know and whatnot, it's only the first night and it can only get better from here.

That's all for right now, but I'll write again later after my roommate moves in tomorrow!

This shall be my last "hello" until next Thursday because I will be far, far away at a conference...with no room in my suitcase to bring my laptop. Therefore, I have to leave this technological world and just live. I am actually partly looking forward to it.

Alot of my responsiblities and tasks to be done relate to the computer: paying bills, blogging, food reviewing, recipe hunting, paper writing, checking my mail, determining the weather, etc, etc. Man...a few of those (paying bills, checking the mail, etc) don't even sound like a computer needs to be involved. Oh the 21st century! I am excited to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy what the city has to offer in the way of food and fun... That is, when I am not enjoying the wealth of educational and networking opportunities that will be at my disposal. :D

What have you done this summer to further your education, career and/or future? It could be as simple as subscribing to a career related magazine to stay on top of pertinent information in your respective field, participating in an internship, developing a profile on linkedin , renewing your membership to a career related organization...You tell me! What else can we do to make our name known in the field that we are interested in?

Hey guys! How is your day going thus far? Either you just woke up and are relishing in the comfort of a delicious breakfast and a warm cup of coffee (Welcome!) or you are halfway through the day, just wishing that you had a little caffeine action . I just popped out of bed a little while ago and am preparing to go get ready for work. After work, I have to go get a haircut, go to the bank and make an exciting trip (sarcasm?) to Walmart!

Why am I excited to go to Walmart? Well, I am going to stock up on some things that I will need for my upcoming trip! Woo hoo! I barely ever go on trips, especially during the school year (hello, BUSY BUSY schedule). Therefore, when summer rolls around, I am more pumped than ever to go explorin'. Granted, my trip is somewhat on the educational side; but, what can I say, I love my major!

Another thing that is itching to be checked off my to-do list is packing. Packing is no fun and unpacking is even worse, but it's gotta be done, no? I guess I could just not pack and show up in the same clothes everyday...but that might not make the best impression. Tonight I shall try on my heels and see which ones will kill my feet the least, cover my bed with a plethora of clothing options, scour my jewelry in an attempt to be fashionable, make a list (duh!) and ... Oh, to be a fly on the wall! haha

What is your trick to packing and preparing to jump on an airplane?
