Both fraternities and sororities use captial Greek letters from the Greek alphabet to represent their organization. Typically on a college campus you will see these Greek letters on members clothing and on houses, in dorm windows, etc.
Fraternity and sorority members are typically very proud of their organization and they represent their pride by wearing the combination of Greek letters from the Greek alphabet that make up their organization.
Greek letters that represent a fraternity or sorority are usually in a sequence of 2 to 4 capital greek letters. Most organizations fall within 2 or 3 greek letter range and others have more.
Most fraternities and sororities suggest or require new members to know the Greek alphabet well so they can recognize other greek organizations.
